Current phase and requirements
A 2 acre plot of land situated in Gombak is the site of Kampung cottage.
THE SITE ENVISAGED TO HAVE:
- Organic farming and animal husbandry activities to eventually become self sustaining
- Sustainable water and waste water management practices
- Composting and application as fertilizers of organic waste materials
- Buildings with natural materials to create minimal impact on nature and the environment. A training hall mainly of wood with basic cooking facilities and mud hut accommodation for guests will be constructed.
- A pond containing ornamental local fish species Presently, the overall architecture of Kampung Cottage has been finalized and work on building the training hall and mud huts has commenced with readily sourced materials such as clay and used wood. The pond area has also been populated with a thriving aquatic ecosystem that includes local fish species such as tilapia, haruan, puyu, ketutu; birds like the king fisher ,magpie, wak wak; reptiles like the monitor lizard, frogs, tortoise and insects like the dragon flies.
Presently volunteers provide manpower in the construction of the hall and huts and in the process also acquire new skills. Our needs now are to obtain raw construction materials such as wood, window and door frame, sand, cement, bricks at minimal or no cost and engage more volunteers to have the basic structures completed. We will then move on to the next phase of preparing the land for cultivation and animal husbandry with guests being able to stay on site and experience the concept of communal living in harmony with nature first hand.
